ENRICO BERNARDO
SOMMELIER OF THE YEAR 2005

Enrico Bernardo is the young sommelier at the Four Seasons George V Hotel in Paris – young but one of the stars of the property, as at just 28 years old he has brought home to this historic hotel the award all sommeliers dream about: The World’s Best Sommelier 2005. The slight Italian from Milano beat off competition over five days of testing, sipping, gurgling and pouring his way to success triumphantly claiming the trophy ahead of three other finalists (Herve Pennequin from America, Gerard Basset from the UK and Juergen Fendt from Germany) on the final day.

“It was a big luck for me and at the same time very satisfying for the work I did – to become the best,” he says humbly, seated outside Le Cinq, looking back on the best year of his life.
